Amazon Basics 50-Inch Lightweight Tripod | Nikon D80

,

Honestly this is the lightest tripod that I have ever used and this is what I find. It is really super super lightweight and folds to a small size which you can easily carry in your backpack. Comes with a quick release latch so that you can keep the latch on the camera all the time and easily snap into the tripod.

The Amazon Basics 50-Inch Lightweight Tripod is a super light weight. Negatives: wobbly top, thin legs which could easily bend

Update Feb 2016: Been using it for a couple of months, Primarily using it as a Projector stand for my AAXA Pico projector. I have 3 kids and this poor tripod has took a lot of beating and throwing from my kids and still surviving and doing good. So, not bad really !

When I got this small square tube in the mail, I was not sure it was the tripod – how could a 50″ tripod be so small and lightweight.

Honestly this is the lightest tripod that I have ever used and this is what I find:

* It is really super super lightweight and folds to a small size which you can easily carry in your backpack

* comes with a quick release latch so that you can keep the latch on the camera all the time and easily snap into the tripod

What is not good

* The center pole can be raised and when I raised it, it was wobbly – that was not good since it has a bit of ply

* the bottom most legs are like chicken legs – I get a feeling that these could easily bend

Would I recommend it ? Yes – for lightweight camera equipment and day trips where you do not want to carry too much around, I would definitely use it.

But if you are a professional, I would not trust a $2000 lens on this. I would ideally rate it 3.5 stars and not even 4 stars given the quality of this.

But for this price and this weight and dimensions you cant beat it.

Amazon Basics 50-Inch Lightweight Tripod: Great for the price, but has short comings

This Amazon Basics 50-Inch Lightweight Tripod is VERY lightweight… almost too light. It is great for a novice, or if you are going on a hike and want to take it along without being over burdened. It does have a convenient carrying case, and it is very easy to put in and take out. Over all, this is a good, inexpensive, take along tripod.

However, the problem becomes apparent if there is wind and you are shooting a distance or if you are trying to pan a shot. The stability is not the greatest when the legs are fully extended. They are so thin that I worry about them breaking, and so I am not taking shots as quickly as I normally would.

I prefer my monopod (also AmazonBasics) which is really great, and very solid. My regular tripod is solid as a rock (but was more expensive and much heavier). The latches to extend the legs are easy to use, just need a bit of force to open them. The level is standard on most tripods, but is very small and the bubble on mine is REALLY little.

They should have left out another drop (yes, it is that little). For the price, I don’t think you will find better, BUT, unless you need something this basic or light, you might be better served with something a bit more stable.
